Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how Moments ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you use our voice journaling application.
1. Information We Collect
Voice Recordings & Journal Entries
When you record a moment, the audio is captured and stored locally on your device. Your journal entries — including transcripts, AI-generated titles, summaries, and tags — are also stored locally on your device, not on our servers. To turn a recording into a written entry, the audio is sent securely to our AI processing service (see AI Processing below), where it is used only to generate your transcript and entry details. It is not retained by us or by our AI provider after processing.
Account Information
Moments uses anonymous accounts — no email address or password is required. We generate a unique anonymous identifier for your device automatically. You may optionally provide a display name and personal journaling preferences (age range, goals, journaling history) within the app; these are stored on your device. Limited account data tied to your anonymous identifier — such as subscription status and AI usage counts — is held on our servers to operate the service.
Analytics
Moments does not include any analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not collect usage analytics, behavioral data, advertising identifiers, or telemetry about how you use the app.
Subscription Information
If you purchase a subscription, it is processed through Apple's App Store and managed with our payments provider, RevenueCat. To validate and manage your subscription, RevenueCat receives your purchase information and a device identifier. We do not receive or store your payment card details.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To provide and maintain the Moments service
- To transcribe your voice recordings into text
- To generate AI titles, summaries, tags, and recaps of your journal entries
- To manage your subscription and access to premium features
3. AI Processing
Moments uses AI to turn your recordings into written journal entries. When you record a moment, the audio is sent securely, through our backend, to our AI provider, OpenAI: OpenAI Whisper transcribes the audio into text, and OpenAI's GPT models generate a title, summary, and tags for the entry, as well as periodic recaps of your entries. Your audio and transcripts are transmitted over encrypted connections and are used only to provide these features. OpenAI does not use data submitted through its API to train its models, and we do not sell your data to third parties.
All of your journal content — recordings, transcripts, and AI-generated details — is stored on your device. It is not stored on our servers.
4. Data Storage and Security
Your journal entries and recordings are stored locally on your device and are protected by your device's own security, such as your passcode and disk encryption. Data sent to our AI provider for processing is encrypted in transit (TLS). We take reasonable measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
5. Data Retention
Your journal entries and recordings remain on your device until you delete them or delete the app. Audio and transcripts sent for AI processing are used only to generate your entry and are not retained by us afterward. Limited account data tied to your anonymous identifier (such as subscription status and AI usage counts) is retained on our servers for as long as needed to operate the service, except where we are required by law to retain it.
6. Your Rights
Because your journal content is stored only on your device, you can access, edit, or permanently delete it directly within the app at any time. Depending on your location, you may also have the right to:
- Request access to any personal data we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate data
- Request deletion of your data and account
- Export your journal entries in a portable format

7. Children's Privacy
Moments is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us immediately.
8. Third-Party Services
We use a small number of third-party services: cloud infrastructure providers, our AI processing provider (OpenAI), and our payments provider (RevenueCat, for subscription management). These providers are contractually obligated to handle your data securely and only in ways necessary to provide their services to us.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any material changes by updating the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, through an in-app notification.
